The river is the last out of three stages in Texas Holdem where the communal cards are placed open on the table. In the river there is one card opened from the deck which is placed on the table facing up. This makes it five open communal cards all together at this stage of the game. After the river the Small blind opens the final round of betting.

In Texas Holdem, and other poker variation such as Omaha poker for example, there are cards that are referred to as communal cards. The communal cards are cards that are visible for all players and that can be used by all players. In Texas Holdem there are 5 communal cards which can be used by any of the players while combining them with the 2 cards in each player’s hands. Big Blind

The big blind is the person sitting to the left of the Small blind. Since the Small blind changes during the game, the big blind also get changed. His role in the game is to place the second bet after the Small blind and to create a starting point for the person sitting on his left, which is the first to see his dealt cards
